THE THOUSAND
The idea for The Thousand campaign was born in late 2019 by members of HideOut’s Fundraising Committee and one of our founder patrons, GCA Altium.
Having learned of the challenges faced by the young people of East Manchester and particularly in the neighbourhoods that surround the Youth Zone (Longsight, Ardwick, Gorton), the group wanted to create an initiative that could generate regular and consistent funds to enhance and support core funding as well as providing additional layers of enrichment activities or subsidising membership or entrance fees.
The premise of the campaign is quite simple; by giving £66.66 + Gift Aid (which increases your donation by 25% at no extra cost) each month, your annual contribution will total £1,000 and you become a much valued member of “The Thousand”!

£83.33 x 12 months = £1,000
We will use the monies raised by The Thousand to give young people unique, fun and inspiring opportunities such as residentials and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, or to purchase specialist equipment or resources, e.g. a harness which will enable a wheelchair-bound child to scale our 100ft climbing wall or much needed textiles and craft materials for creative arts projects.
HOW IT WORKS

We’re using the Charities Aid Foundation’s Donate system to process and manage your direct debit donations. Established over 90 years ago, the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) are a charity, a bank and ‘a champion for better giving’. You can learn more about them by clicking here.
GIFT AID
Gift Aid is a vital part of the campaign as it increases your £66.66 donation to £83.33 every month. For your donations to be eligible you must be an individual and a UK taxpayer. Companies can absolutely still be a proud supporter of The Thousand but your monthly donation amount would need to be £83.33 and exclude Gift Aid.
GROUPS
We recognise that £66.66 is a sizeable donation each month and some may wish to split the amount between 2 or 3 people and support The Thousand collectively. We welcome (and are very grateful for!) this approach and have created additional donation options for this purpose.
We ask if you choose to sign-up as a team/group that you email and tell us (thethousand@hideoutyouthzone.org) who the contributors are so that we can link your donations together.

Frequently Asked Questions
How will my donation be used?
Funds raised through the campaign will be used towards providing the children and young people of Manchester with somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.
They will help towards the cost of the core provision of fun, engaging and inspiring activities plus create additional opportunities like residentials. Residentials are great for young people to experience life away from home (which will be the first time for many) or to try their hand at something a little different, like canoeing or gorge-walking. The funds from the campaign will always be used for the benefit of children and young people.
Can I sign-up by phone?
Absolutely! We chose the Charities Aid Foundation’s Donate system as it allows us to do the direct debit instruction on your behalf if that’s your preference. Now I have signed up, what can I expect to receive in return?
Supporters of The Thousand will receive:
– A quarterly update with news of the campaign and tangible examples of how it’s benefiting children and young people
– An invitation to an annual supporter event
I forgot to add Gift Aid, can I add it now?
Unfortunately not, you will need to cancel your original direct debit instruction and then create a new one with the Gift Aid box ticked.
How can I change or cancel my monthly direct debit?

Can I choose a different monthly donation amount?
We are incredibly grateful for any support you can give, and every donation is truly appreciated. For this specific campaign your (individual or grouped, see below) monthly donation needs to be in excess of £66.66 plus Gift Aid, or for companies, a minimum of £83.33 per month.
Can we split the donation amount between a couple or group?
Yes! The £66.66 + Gift Aid can be split between two people (so £33.33 + Gift Aid each) or three (£22.22 + Gift Aid each). Once each of your direct debits have been setup, please email us (thethousand@hideoutyouthzone.org) with the names of each person so that we can link the donations together on our systems.
How can I get more involved in the charity?
There are lots of ways you can help us! Volunteers are absolutely integral to the Youth Zone and underpin many of our services and activities. Some areas we ask for help in is creative and performing arts, cooking, multi sports, music and media, health & well-being and mixed martial arts.
