Head of Development

Job Title: Head of Development

Hours: 40 hours per week including some evenings & weekends

Salary: Up to £50,000 dependent on experience

Location: HideOut Youth Zone

A truly exciting post working alongside the Chief Executive and key members of the Board of Trustees to deliver c£1.4m a year of philanthropy for Manchester’s newest Youth Zone. Stewarding and renewing those who have made major gifts during the first year of development, this is a senior leadership role where you will lead the strategic development and implementation of new, diverse income streams (notably corporate partnerships trusts & grants, a mid-level giving programme, and events & community fundraising)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • – Proven experience in generating income from major donors (corporate and/or high net worth individuals). Impressive track record in securing significant funds and meeting challenging financial targets, including both new business and account management
  • – Proven experience in generating income from event and community fundraising is desirable
  • – Experience of supporting senior colleagues and/or Trustees to learn the art, craft and science of major donor fundraising
  • – Understanding of issues affecting young people and disadvantaged communities
  • – Management experience is desirable

Hours: 40 hours per week (early mornings and occasional evenings/ weekends)

HideOut Youth Zone’s state-of-the-art £6.6m facility opened in September 2020 to provide an engaging and inspiring place for thousands of young people aged 8 – 19 (up to 25 for those with additional needs) to spend their leisure time.  Open 7-nights a week, 52-weeks a year plus school holidays, the Youth Zone’s incredible facilities include a 3G pitch, skate park, 30ft climbing wall, boxing/mixed martial arts gym, 4-court sports hall, sensory room, fitness suite, recreation area and dance, arts, music and media suites and much more.

THE ROLE

The Buildings & Facilities Officer plays a crucial role at HideOut as they keep our members, staff and volunteers safe by managing and maintaining the Youth Zone building effectively and efficiently. They will ensure the Charity is compliant with health and safety regulations including building, equipment, services, and related contracts, as well as carrying out general maintenance and managing HideOut’s Cleaning team, ensuring that the building is upheld to the highest of standards and accessible for all young people.

THE PERSON

We are seeking candidates who:

  • -Have experience (ideally 2+ years) of managing a building and its services such as a school, college/university, sports/leisure centre or other large multi-use facility
  • -Are able to carry out general repairs and preventative work
  • -Have line-managed cleaners and supervised contractors
  • -Have a working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation, as well as fire safety regulations and COSHH
  • -Have great people skills and can establish good professional relationships with young people and adults alike
  • -Will be inspired by the aims and mission of HideOut Youth Zone and East Manchester.

We are seeking an experienced Volunteer Recruitment and Staff Training Manager to lead and shape HideOut’s volunteer offer and strategy, ensuring our services and programmes for children and young people are underpinned by a committed and diverse team of inspired volunteers and staff across all areas of the charity. The successful candidate will oversee, co-ordinate and manage all aspects of volunteering and training and as such will require extensive experience and knowledge in the areas of volunteer recruitment and retention, staff & volunteer training and collaborative working in a fast-paced environment.

THE PERSON

You will:

  • -Have significant knowledge of and experience in recruiting, managing, inspiring and retaining volunteers
  • -Have hands-on experience in designing and delivering high quality, innovative training and development opportunities for both staff and volunteers
  • -Recognise, celebrate and be able to convey the importance and value of volunteers
  • -Have strong interpersonal and networking skills as well as knowledge and awareness of issues affecting young people
  • -Have a positive, ‘can do’ attitude with the ability to enthuse and motivate others

A vital front of house role, our Reception & Membership Co-ordinators are the first point of contact for HideOut’s members (children and young people aged 8-19 years, up to 25 for those with additional needs) and their parents, plus our staff/volunteers, supporters and guests. You will be a key part of a welcoming and highly professional team who ensure that the Youth Zone functions to its maximum potential. You will manage the busy reception area, ensuring young people enter the session smoothly and their attendance and payments accurately recorded, processing new members, directing phone calls and enquiries, maintaining the membership database efficiently and carrying out regular communications.

THE PERSON

We are looking for candidates who:

  • -Have proven experience of managing or supervising a busy reception desk
  • -Are highly organised and able to work in a demanding and lively environment
  • -Can engage and interact with all audiences including children, young people, parents and visitors
  • -Have a calm and approachable manner
  • -Are highly reliable

THE PERSON

We are looking for candidates who:

  • -Have experience of working within a busy catering environment and dealing with customers face-to-face

  • -Hold a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
  • -Are highly reliable
  • -Have knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental issues relating to catering
