HideOut wins organisation of the year at annual youth awards

Thursday 2nd March saw the annual Youth Buzz Awards event held by Manchester City Council, in which HideOut Youth Zone was up for two awards.

The Youth Buzz Awards are organised by Manchester Youth Council on behalf of the City Council and give the city an opportunity to spotlight and celebrate Manchester’s extraordinary young people.

The awards are for young Mancunians aged from 11-19 from all over the city who really help make a difference to their communities.

The Youth Buzz Awards give the city and the Council a chance to formally recognise and reward young people for the fantastic things they do – not just for themselves but also for others.

The event saw twelve different categories for awards, including Young Mentor, Young Carer, Young Achiever, Making a Difference, Youth Project of The Year, Community Champion, Best Social Action group, Young Volunteer, Most Effective Youth Voice or Campaign, Young Leader, Youth / Play Worker or organisation of the Year and, finally, Outstanding Achievement by a Young Person Award.

The Awards Ceremony was at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel and was the third annual Youth Buzz Awards.

One of HideOut’s Senior Club members, Charlie, was nominated by the Youth Zone under the category ‘Young Leader of the Year’, for his work in our Young Leaders programme, specifically working in our sports area and with our junior members.

Charlie was shortlisted to the final three and, although he did not win this category, we are extremely proud of this achievement.

HideOut Youth Zone was also shortlisted in the category ‘Youth Organisation of the Year’. We are pleased to share that we were chosen as the winners in this category, based on all the hard work and effort of theentire team to ensure our members have access to incredible experiences, activities and opportunities, as well as somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.

Head of Youth Work, Joe Amos, said:

“It’s an incredible achievement for HideOut to be recognised as Organisation of the Year. We are so proud of all our young people, staff and volunteers that continue to work hard, overcome challenges, support and celebrate each other day in and day out.

Special congratulations to Charlie for being shortlisted in his category. We hope this gives him a huge boost in understanding his potential, and the encouragement to continue in his work as a valuable young leader”

Charlie said:

“I didn’t expect to be nominated, never mind shortlisted. Thank you to HideOut for putting me forward, and to the Youth Council for putting me through to the final three. I had a good time at the event, it was a fun night!”

HideOut has supported over 6,000 young people in Manchester, and gives young people from a diverse range of backgrounds access to incredible facilities in a vibrant, purpose-built space packed with engaging activities, the opportunity to make friends, develop new skills, unlock their potential and have fun.
